SANA’A – Antonia Calvo, the ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Yemen, confirmed in a press conference on March 21 that she is satisfied with Ansarullah’s efforts to achieve peace in the country.
Calvo made the statement right before leaving from Sana’a International Airport in the Yemeni capital, after having met with the leadership of Ansarullah and the revolutionary government of the Republic. She expressed happiness and gratitude with the efforts of both Ansarullah and the General People’s Congress to achieve a swift end to the war that is ravaging Yemen. The ambassador praised both parties for their commitment to the peace process, and called upon them to meet with the newly appointed UN representative to Yemen soon.
She added that she is ready to do everything in her power with the various humanitarian organizations, both those of the United Nations and NGOs, to provide food and medicine for the suffering Yemeni people. Furthermore, she declared that the EU itself would raise the amount of humanitarian aid sent to Yemen as well.
“Since the beginning of the war, the European Union has always stressed that the solution will be achieved only via the political path that takes into consideration the hopes and demands of the Yemeni people,” Calvo stated.
In conclusion, ambassador Calvo expressed her admiration for the Yemeni people’s dignity and patience in light of these very difficult situations.
The revolutionary government of Yemen has been steadily increasing attempts to reach out diplomatically to various foreign governments. A delegation from the Supreme Political Council was sent on a tour of both Arab and European nations last month, amongst others visiting Germany to represent Yemen on the international scene.
