SANA’A – The French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, has demanded an end to the Saudi-led war against Yemen, stating “it is time for the war in Yemen to stop” during a radio interview on Tuesday.
“It is time for this war to stop and it is also important, and this is the priority for France, to improve the humanitarian situation and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid,” Parly continued.
The statement makes France the second major European power, after Germany, that has openly condemned the Saudi atrocities in Yemen.
“France is exerting pressure in cooperation with the United Nations so that a political solution can be found, because this military situation has no way out in Yemen,” Florence Parly concluded.
However, the Defence Minister’s statement made no mention of issuing a weapons embargo against the Saudi kingdom, something Germany had explicitly asked for last week. On the contrary, Parly attempted to reassure the public by saying that “our weapons are not being used against civilians in Yemen”, implicitly hinting that weapons exports will continue unabated.
