SANA’A – General Abu Ali al-Hakim, Chief of Military Intelligence of the Yemeni Armed Forces, has revealed secret information regarding Tariq Afash, the mercenary leader who defected to the Saudi-UAE side.
Tariq Afash, nephew of the former Yemeni despot Ali Abdullah Saleh who died in battle after defecting to Saudi Arabia in December 2017. Tariq Afash also defected to the invaders, and has led a group of mercenaries in the employ of Saudi Arabia and the UAE ever since, leading them to a series of humiliating military defeats against the Yemeni Armed Forces.
According to the released classified information obtained by the Military Intelligence, Tariq Afash paid 100,000 riyals in payment for every member of the Republican Guard who defected and joined his side over the past four months. However, the information furthermore states that many of those who had taken the bribe, fled from combat against the Yemeni Armed Forces not long after joining Afash, and ended up arrested by UAE forces for desertion.
Over 800 defectors who had joined the side of Tariq Afash are reportedly being held at the Emirati-occupied Bier Ahmed prison in Aden, on suspicion of desertion and fleeing from combat, as well as selling their weapons on the black market.
Chief of Military Intelligence, Abu Ali al-Hakim, made an official statement while releasing the classified information, stating that the defectors had insulted themselves and had betrayed their own dignity and honour.
The General furthermore called on the defecting former members of the Republican Guard to rectify their crimes against their people and homeland, by taking up armed resistance against the Saudi and Emirati occupiers of Yemen.
