The President of the Syrian Arab Arab Republic, Bashar al-Assad, has revealed why the British authorities have detained the Iranian oil tanker in Gibraltar.
The president made the statement during an interview with television channels RT on Saturday.
“The detention of the Iranian oil tanker was aimed at harming the Syrian people and forcing them to pay the price for standing with their government,” Assad said.
He added that there were those who expected the Syrians “to rise up against the government during the various stages of the war, but they did not.”
“They were expected to support the terrorists, like the White Helmets di. But the [Syrian] people did not [support the terrorists], and they stood with their government. And for that, they have been made to suffer.”
