SANA’A – Spanish Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has ordered the temporary withdrawal of the Spanish frigate Méndez Núñez (F-104), with 215 sailors on board, from the combat group led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East, according to EFE News Agency.
According to sources in Madrid, the Spanish frigate will be back to join the naval group after the end of the mission currently assigned in the Middle East region.
It is reported that the US combat group led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln Lincoln has crossed the Bab al-Mandab strait, which links the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean, and is on its way to the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Spanish media, the combat unit will pass the strait without the Spanish frigate.
The United States has sent its aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by a naval combat group, to the Persian Gulf for threatening manoevers against the Islamic Republic of Iran, causing widespread concern that Washington seeks to fan the flames of tension and possible conflict
