ADEN – Deputy Head of the so-called Southern Transitional Council, Hani bin Brik, has admitted that his militias have failed to impose control over the city of Ataq, the capital of Shabwa province in the southeast of Yemen.
“Out of respect for Saudi-led coalition, the elite forces are totally committed to calm, and will consider solutions with the coalition,” he said in a tweet on Twitter.
He added however that in event of “repeated aggression and mobilization from the terrorist Islah party”, the STC forces would retaliate.
Military observers considered that bin Brik’s remarks are a recognition of the defeat of his militias in the province of Shabwah. This happened after the province’s tribal coalitions confronted the military reinforcements of the STC that were incoming from Dhalea, Lahj and the city of Aden on Thursday, inflecting heavy losses on them.
